Russ Thurow

Russ Thurow is a Fisheries Research Scientist with the USDA-Forest Service, Rocky Mountain Research Station in Salmon, Idaho. Russ was raised on a Wisconsin farm where his parents encouraged his interest in the natural world. He has fisheries degrees from the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point and the University of Idaho. He is a member of a team of biologists and physical scientists whose mission is to provide new information and techniques for understanding, conserving, and restoring Intermountain West fish populations and critical habitats. Russ has studied Central Idaho’s remarkable wild salmon and steelhead for more than 40 years and he has worked extensively in the Middle Fork Salmon River drainage.
