Shawn leads AFT’s fundraising strategy in the West Coast and special projects aligning AFT with like-minded organizations nationwide. She has a more than 30-year career leading nonprofit organizations and advancement offices. Before joining AFT, Shawn served as the fundraising leader at the Palm Desert Campus of California State University San Bernardino, securing the funding to begin two new programs on the campus to serve the region’s unique needs. Before that she served as head of Foothills School of Arts and Sciences in Boise, Idaho, where she worked to integrate environmental education throughout the curriculum, earning state and national accolades. She has been recognized as a “40 Under 40” leader in Texas and New Mexico, and as an Idaho Woman of the Year. With her husband, she is part of family ranching operations in Idaho and Oregon and she grew up on a family farm in Indiana; farming has been a part of her entire lifetime and she is committed to seeing farmers succeed in business and in providing the environmental services necessary to help heal the planet.
