Austin Shelton is a marine and environmental scientist at the University of Guam, serving as the director of the Center for Island Sustainability and Sea Grant programs. He leads initiatives that support the transition of island communities toward a sustainable future. Current activities include aligning with U.N Sustainable Development Goals and stimulating island circular economy industries.
Shelton conducts research to revive island ecosystems and builds STEM capacity in Pacific Islander communities through student research experiences and science fairs. He oversees grant awards from agencies, including the National Science Foundation, NOAA, USDA, and U.S. Navy. He represents Guam and UOG in the Secretariat of the Pacific Regional Environment Programme, National Sea Grant Association, and Global Consortium for Sustainability Outcomes.
