Lila Preston is a partner at Generation Investment Management. She joined Generation in 2004 and, since 2008, has worked with the firm’s Climate Solutions Fund, which invests in growth stage businesses that are generating value by enabling the transition to a low carbon economy ( She covers a broad range of sectors including water, agriculture, biomass economy and consumer behavior change. Before joining Generation, she worked with American Express and Bridges Ventures while studying for her M.B.A. Prior to 2003, she worked as a director of finance and development at VolunteerMatch in San Francisco, and also as a consultant for clients such as Save the Children (YouthNoise). From 1998-2000, Lila served as a Fulbright Fellow in Southern Chile, where she worked on community-based forestry projects. Lila graduated from Stanford University with a B.A. (Honors) in English and Latin American Studies. She holds an M.B.A. from London Business School. She currently serves as a board director for Seventh Generation, the U.S.-based household and personal care company, as well as for non-profit Net Impact. She also is a World Economic Forum Young Global Leader. Thanks to Lila’s grandparents, Ruth and Ned Swanberg, Lila has been coming to Sun Valley since age 12. Despite living in London, she and her husband, Brooks, spend as much time as possible at their Sun Valley home with their two daughters, Sage and Summer.
